Solitaire: New Layout

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Many of you have been writing to us about the latest version of MobilityWare Solitaire App. Firstly, let us be clear, we don’t care much about the new layout. We rather liked the original version. Now to the feedback we have been getting.

Most people have been reporting issues using the newest version of the App. Many of the issues are glitches and I am sure MobilityWare will resolve these in future updates.

The following issue particlarly stood out:

I’ve been playing Solitaire for 3 years and got 30+ gold trophies … until [Mobilityware] updated the whole look of the game. Even though I am ‘welcomed back’ my total history has been wiped! What’s going on!

Another one that got our attention was:

There is also meant to be a “Show me how to win” option. I click on the Daily icon, then on the graph icon (on my far right not left) which brings me to the leaderboard, but there is no show me how to win option. I only get High Score/First Game/Fewest Moves options up the top and Play and Confirm at the bottom.

The one that surprised me was the behavio(u)r of Auto Complete for the following layout:

In the past I would expect the Auto Complete to magically pull the “Jack of Hearts” from the bottom of the Draw Open stack and move it to Foundation 1. This was not he case with the latest version of the App. I hope this is a bug and not a feature. We were beginning to get a handle of the Auto Complete feature and would hate to see it being killed by MobilityWare.

The question everyone has been asking is why did MobilityWare change the layout. We believe the update was meant to improve the user experience on iPhone X. None of us own an iPhone X so we can’t say if it is an improvement (Yes, we are flat broke).

What has your experience been with the update? If you own an iPhone X, do you consider the new layout an improvement? Please share your comments below.

Note: We are not associated with MobilityWare in any way or receive any support, financial or otherwise, from them.

  1. Two problems with the new version. First, I can’t find how to display the old “Moves Time Score” display. Can anyone enlighten me or have the makers dumped this (I think integral) feature? Secondly, although I have the paid for (ad free) version the previous MobilityWare flash screen has been replaced by a five-second countdown featuring hints or suggestions which are totally useless and annoying. Hope they soon scrap this!

Why can’t software developers adhere to the old adage, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it?”

    1. The startup screen for the ad free version is driving me nuts too. If anyone figures out a way of turning it off, please let us know.

  2. The Solitaire Draw 1 daily challenge for 2018/07/28 can be solved in 107 steps using the Auto Complete magic that has been discussed in several posts in the Tips and Feature Reviews section.

The free (with ads) version still uses the old layout. I tried this challenge with the free version and could complete it in 107 moves.

The paid (without ads) version uses the new layout. I tried this challenge with the paid version and the best solution I got was 108 moves. This is because the Auto Complete magic is broken in the paid version and hence it moves the “Jack of Clubs” to one of the Tableau stacks instead of magically moving the “9 of Clubs” from under it to Foundation.

This is bad. If I have to use the free (with ads) version of the App to get on the leaderboard, why did I buy the paid version? Could I have my money back please.

  3. The ads are bad enough but when there’s no option to x out of them, that’s when I’m done with Solitaire. Give me the tried and true old-fashioned deck of cards. Much more relaxing and stress free.
